The Holy Grail

In Christian mythology, the Holy Grail was the plate or cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper.  The chalice of the Eucharist was named the Holy Grail.

The connection of Joseph of Arimathea with the Grail begins in a legend from Robert de Baron's Joseph D'Arimathie (late 12th century), in which Joseph receives the Grail from Jesus in an apparition.  Building upon this theme, later writers recounted how Joseph used the Grail to catch Christ's blood while burying Him.  The legend may combine Christian lore with Celtic.  The stories of the Grail, however, are totally absent from Orthodox teachings.

"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of the sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not whither; and whatever he does shall prosper" (Psalm1:1-3).
